Review Of SYTYCD UK – Quarter Finals
This week we lose Drew; the master of Broadway who performed a Lyrical Hip Hop routine alongside Charlie. The whole concept of a mime trying to impress a girl was such a cute love story which they told well. However, their performance was more entertaining than technical; considering neither were strong at hip hop. Kate Prince choreographed the routine to make it enjoyable to watch. Drew was noted as the stronger dancer during the performance but when it came to the bottom two, despite his ability to use a prop really well, Robbie topped him with his solo.
We also say goodbye to the firecracker Yanet; who danced a Lindy Hop with Robbie. The mad professor and his muse theme was a very fun show opener to watch but within their performance, there were so many lifts that at one point it looked a mess. Judges felt that it was not as strong as it could have been. Arlene commented that Robbie was too tense. Sisco said that Yanet was the weakest girl out of the lot, so when she ended up in the bottom two, the judges stated that they were not surprised.
Alastair and Lizzie were next to perform with a beautiful contemporary routine choreographed by Rafael Bonachela. It was so sincere, subtle and calming which made it so powerful and spell-binding said Arlene. Every move was smooth, seemed to intertwine and flow as it should. Each week they have been growing as a couple, both Alastair and Lizzie can be seen as very versatile dancers as they can adapt to the dance styles given to them. Both of their solos were as strong as they usually are; Alastair truly an amazing dancer who captures everything in ballet and Lizzie extremely unique, fun and energetic.
The last performance was the best of the night, according to Nigel. Tommy and Mandy performed a very bright and bubbly Broadway routine. Together they are a strong couple who seem to settle into various dances. Their whole performance was in perfect synchronisation, they even managed to include classical dance moves which, as the judges stated, made them phenomenal. However, Louise expected a little bit more especially at this stage of the competition. Again, their solos were a joy to watch; Tommy being full of energy and charisma with a smile that suits the music and lights up his performances. Mandy was very expressive; her love for dancing showing in her every move which was done with such ease and precision.
With the semi-finals approaching swiftly, the judges are becoming tougher and are expecting a lot more from the remaining six contestants. Can they step up to the plate and produce a performance that ensures their survival in the competition?
Before we know it, the finals will be here and only one will be crowned the winner of SYTYCD.
But who will it be?
